Painting the Living Room Window Black

Our Favorite Window This window is in many ways a signature of our home. It’s an identity of our home. No matter the season, folks know it’s our living room as soon as they spot this window. This pretty lookout was added to our 100 year old home by a previous owner years ago. It overlooks our back property and it’s one of my favorite things about the house.  A New Paint Trend This window was previously white, but we decided to change things up a bit and give the black window trend a try.  We love it!! As you know, there are lots of black accents in our home, so this…

Hats + Blanket on a Wall

Do you ever get tired of seeing the same murals or shelves on the walls in your bedroom? If you’re thinking about changing up your wall decor any time soon, this post is for you! I love how this wall in our bedroom went from blank to cozy in a matter of minutes! It was seriously the easiest decor project I’ve ever done.  Simple Decor The hats are all vintage finds from yard sales and antique stores. You could totally use new hats, too! I added a bit of cozy by hanging an urban outfitters blanket on a gold hook. You can take either or both of these ideas and easily fill a…

    I painted our Mantel BLACK

BE BOLD Yes, I painted our mantel black!! Honestly, I had no idea if I would love it or not. However, I love it indeed! We did already have touches of black in our house. The treads on our staircase are painted black, and we have a beautiful old black cabinet in our dining room. But still… painting this mantel felt SO BRAVE!  What Makes Black So Good? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of white on white on white, and I will be always and forever! But this pop of black added a touch of richness to the space that white just couldn’t do. Suddenly, the fireplace…

    We Bought a Stock Tank

That’s right! We went for it and invested in our own stock tank for a swimming pool! One day we definitely want an in-ground swimming pool, but this will do for now. We really wanted something to enjoy this summer, so we took the plunge! Details The tank can hold up to 700 gallons, and it’s 8 ft wide + 2ft deep. Only about $400 from Tractor Supply! I feel like we’re going to live in it on the hot days, so the price was totally worth it to us. We also bought a filter for it, but it hasn’t come in quite yet. I’ll keep you posted on the filter details.…

    Painting the Deck

I painted our deck! I had a lot of questions on how I did it, and let me tell you, it was simple! So, I figured I would round up everything in a blog post. It’s absolutely amazing the difference this afternoon project made. Type of paint I used a paint called Advanced Deckover by Behr. When purchasing this paint you’ll find it comes in different textured finishes. I chose smooth. Color There were lots of beautiful color options. This time I picked Rose Beige. It’s the perfect rosey neutral! Never be afraid of paint colors! It’s just paint! How I painted You might be surprised when I tell ya,…

    Q & A – Garden Rock

Over the weekend we had 4 tons of gravel delivered to our property for our garden. We’ve had the chicken coop out in this space for a few years and it’s always felt like it was just a random building in a random place on our land. When we decided we wanted to do raised beds for a vegetable garden, Aaron came up with this idea! He said we should put gravel around the chicken coop and make a mini farm in that area. It created such an awesome space on our land!  Like many other people, I really didn’t know much about rock but I’ve learned a few things over…

    DIY Raised Garden Bed

Spring is officially here! I’m starting to get in garden mode! Last year I kept herbs, roses and hydrangeas alive. This year I’m gonna try added a vegetable garden to that list! Last weekend Aaron made this sweet raised bed for my vegetable garden. I’m SO excited to get to planting!  What we used: Materials: 6′ Cedar Dog-Ear Fence Boards Home Depot Cedar Fence Pickets  For the sides and the top lip, we used cedar dog-ear fence boards. Cedar is the perfect wood to build raised beds out of because it’s naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and insects. It’s sure to last many years. Cedar can be pretty pricey though,…

    Q & A – DIY Range Hood

We’ve had lots of questions about our DIY Range Hood in the kitchen! This is something we’ve wanted to replace for years but didn’t think about building it ourselves. Before this project their was a microwave in this space above our stove. This project was TOTALLY worth it and brought so much warmth to our kitchen. Here’s a few Q & A’s we’ve gotten about the whole process! Q – Does it work? A – YASSS! Q – How much did you spend?  A – Ha, are we talking time or money?! Money – we spent about $75 on the materials. Time – it took us a weekend.  Q –…

Save Money – MAKE YOUR OWN LATTE

I’ve been going to Starbucks for YEARS. Spending $5 here and $5 there and it’s always been the way I’ve got my coffee fix. Until I learned something. One evening I asked Aaron while he was leaving work and asked him to grab me a latte on the way home. We live 20 minutes from town and I still had a ton of work to do that night. Ugh,I didn’t catch him in time. And then he surprised me with, “I can make you one when I get home.” What??? I had NO idea he knew how to do this.. Why has he been keeping this a secret? Well, the…
