Old Fashioned Carrot Cake – Easter Dessert
It’s the week of Easter and I love being festive! This carrot cake was inspired from a recipe out of an old church cookbook, a phone call to my momma, and a little of what I know! This cake is a little old fashioned. JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT! I wanted it to look like something your great aunt or grandma would bring to an Easter dinner. The bunt shape and pecan icing really achieve that look! What you’ll need: CAKE 2 cups sifted flour 2 cups light brown sugar 1.5 sticks of butter (room temperature) 1 teaspoon of baking soda 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1 1/4 teaspoon…

Q & A – Garden Rock
Over the weekend we had 4 tons of gravel delivered to our property for our garden. We’ve had the chicken coop out in this space for a few years and it’s always felt like it was just a random building in a random place on our land. When we decided we wanted to do raised beds for a vegetable garden, Aaron came up with this idea! He said we should put gravel around the chicken coop and make a mini farm in that area. It created such an awesome space on our land! Like many other people, I really didn’t know much about rock but I’ve learned a few things over…

Mantel Refresh
Finally… finally! We were able to hang a picture on our mantel. It’s been a struggle to figure out how to hang anything from this faux stone. But Aaron figured out a way! After nearly 6 years of daydreaming about what I could hang on this stone, I decided to hang an old pasture print. I love the detail of the gold frame against the white stone. It makes for an awesome contrast. Honestly, the picture is a bit small for this space, so I needed something to fill it in! So I went outside and clipped a large branch from a tree in our yard and put it in the extra…

Using What You Have and Being Grateful
This has been such a time of worry, sadness and anxiety. It’s been heavy. Even so, I have found a sense of grounding in gratitude and that’s come from using what I have. Honestly, it’s unlike anything I have ever felt before. It’s all in the little things. The other day I couldn’t figure out what to make us for lunch. I saw pasta and threw together a little pasta salad not using the ingredients I would typically use. I’ll tell you, as I dug through my pantry and fridge, I became so grateful for each item I could find to throw in a pasta salad. Some carrots that were…

DIY Raised Garden Bed
Spring is officially here! I’m starting to get in garden mode! Last year I kept herbs, roses and hydrangeas alive. This year I’m gonna try added a vegetable garden to that list! Last weekend Aaron made this sweet raised bed for my vegetable garden. I’m SO excited to get to planting! What we used: Materials: 6′ Cedar Dog-Ear Fence Boards Home Depot Cedar Fence Pickets For the sides and the top lip, we used cedar dog-ear fence boards. Cedar is the perfect wood to build raised beds out of because it’s naturally resistant to moisture, rot, and insects. It’s sure to last many years. Cedar can be pretty pricey though,…

Spring Shelf Styling
Shelf styling was once a challenge for me until I realized I just needed to keep it simple! I usually freshen up my built in shelves once a season. This is my Spring look! First thing I can tell you when styling shelves is to gather items that inspire you to change things out! For me that was a wood bowl, an old duck, and a new faux aloe plant. I usually lay out on my coffee table plenty of items I could use on the shelves and I shop from that gathering. All of these items have inspired me in some way for the season. This make the process…

Our Recent Disappointment
I wish I were writing this post with new happy news. We were bursting at the seams from not sharing with you all. In fact, I had documented hundreds of stories and pictures for my Instagram just preparing for the day we could announce. We were under CONTRACT for the house of my dreams. Really, it was the house of my dreams. In fact, with the intention of building one day, I had drawn a layout nearly identical on a piece of paper last spring. Little did I know that a house with a nearly identical layout already existed. This home was over 100 years old and had an old…

Valentine’s Dinner – Party of 6
Whether you’re among 10 people or 2, it’s a day to celebrate love! Tablescapes are so fun for me to put together. So why not do a big table for 6 to celebrate! For this tablescape I tried to use items I already had! I did purchase a few things like the peachy pink runner and jug holding the rose wine! Both of those were thrift finds though! Local thrift stores are a great place to go when shopping for a tablescape. My inspiration for this table came from all the “fun romantic” feels! That’s why I used lots of lace layers, many roses and pink dishes! The cotton candy…

Princess Movies and Pink Snacks – Valentine’s
Who doesn’t love a movie day with a marble tray full of PINK & RED snacks?! I know me and my lil sis sure do. It’s always a joy to have my 11 year old sister, Kelbee, around. I try to make things extra special for her so we came up with this little idea to go along with our Disney princess movie watching day. IT’S PERFECT FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR! This whole saga began with a trip to the grocery store! Kelbee and I walked the aisles looking for fun bright snacks that are pink and red. I think part of the fun was picking and planning the…
