Built-Ins Decor
These are the built-ins in our living room. I know some people really don’t enjoy decorating shelves. But me, well, I love it!
For the most part I keep things very simple on our shelves. I have my favorite pieces that stay on these shelves season after season. Then a few times a year I’ll swap out a thing or two to keep them fresh and matching the season.
For example, after Christmas decor came down, I added this gold lantern and flameless candles. Gold lantern linked here. This gives a warm glow for winter but it will be perfect through spring. I also recently added a textured heart wreath. Heart wreath linked here. Valentine’s Day will be here soon!
As for everything else, those items are perfect no matter the season. For example, you can’t go wrong with a metal basket full of extra candles or a wood bowl full of photo albums from years gone by!
I did reserve space on shelf for the books I’ve read so far this year! In the coming months, I plan to fill up that space on the shelf with the books I’ve finished!
3 Tips for Shelf Styling
Here’s a few tips that have helped me over the years when styling built-ins or any shelf!
1 – Keep it Simple
Shelves can have empty space. They don’t have to be piled end to end with things. Remember, this is an opportunity to showcase those special items in your home.
2 – Festive is Nice… and so are Seasons
When you want a change but you’re not sure what to do, remember the season or upcoming holiday. For example, I put out a heart because Valentine’s Day is coming! In the Summer, I add items that are green. Green reminds me of my summer garden! Changing a thing or two out with the season keeps your shelves fresh and festive!
3 – Add Books
After all, isn’t that what shelves are originally for?! Ha, and I’m a book lover! So this step is an easy one for me. When in doubt, add more books! Grab your favorites or the ones that are the same color and line them on your shelf. Books are a wonderful item to decorate with!
Grab your favorite items and books! Happy shelf decorating, friend! Thanks for reading these tips!

Great idea for extra candles. I have been trying to hide in drawers and cabinets. I will get them out and put in cute baskets.
